About Rajshahi Court

In 1787, Mr. Piters Spek was appointed to hold the post of Judge and Magistrate simultaneously. He had two assistants. One had his office in Murshidabad District of India, and the other in Natore District of Bangladesh. This shows that, at that time, one person held the office of administration, revenue, and judiciary simultaneously.

In 1793, the office of Judge and Collector was separated, the Civil Court was converted to District Judge Court, and the post of District Judge was created.

It is known from the Rajshahi District Gazetteer published in 1916 that there was a District and Sessions Judge in Rajshahi. He also performed the office of District and Sessions Judge in Maldah but his main office was situated in Rajshahi.

The construction work of the Judge Court Heritage Building was started under the supervision of French architect Mr. E. S. B. Pereira, and it came to an end in 1864.
